Every LeatherSwift product is born from top-grain cowhide, sourced from what is considered the best part of a full cowhide – its uppermost layer.
This specific section of the hide is prized for being the strongest and most durable, providing an inherent robustness to the final piece.
While it originates from the hide’s outer surface, top-grain leather undergoes a careful refinement process. The very top layer is often gently sanded or buffed to eliminate any natural imperfections such as minor scars, insect bites, or wrinkles. This meticulous step results in a characteristically smooth and even surface, contributing to a more uniform and polished appearance. This process distinguishes it from full-grain leather, which retains all natural markings, yet allows top-grain to maintain remarkable strength and a sophisticated aesthetic.
